Demmink gave Lakewood the lead with his 2nd RBI single of the game against West Virginia starter Brae Wright in the 4th inning. Welinson Baez drove in the tying run on a fielder’s choice ground out and stole 2nd to get into scoring position for Demmink.
West Virginia (15-12) had taken the lead with two in the top of the 3rd, the go-ahead run driven in by Chuck Caufield, the league RBI leader. Taylor Green hit his 12th home run of the year in the 4th for the Power.
The BlueClaws (15-10) extended the lead with three runs in the bottom of the 8th, two on a triple by Welinson Baez and another on a perfectly executed suicide squeeze executed by Demmink, who had to dive to bunt the ball but got it down allowing Baez to score.
Andrew Cruse (4-6) got the win, allowing just three runs, all in the first three innings, over his seven. RJ Swindle came on and got the final six outs for his 9th save of the year.
