LAKEWOOD, NJ—Jeanmar Gomez tossed 7 shutout innings on just 5 hits as Lake County took the rubber game of 3 from the BlueClaws 3-1 at FirstEnergy Park.
Gomez (5-5) did not walk a batter and came out in favor of Scott Sumner at the outset of the 8th inning. He needed just 80 pitches to navigate his 7 innings and struck out 4.
Sumner, with a 3-0 lead in the 8th inning, walked the bases loaded with 1 out, and got Adrian Cardenas to ground out to first scoring a run, setting the stage for Kevin Howard with runners on 2nd and 3rd. On an errant pitch by Sumner that slipped behind the catcher Matt McBride, Doug Morales tried to score from third but was thrown out by McBride with Sumner covering the plate.
Lakewood brought the tying run to the plate in the 9th inning but Tuffy Gosewisch struck out and Jay Miller flew out to center to end the game.
